Old Mill Stables LLP is a BHS approved Riding School located between St. Ives and Hayle in South West Cornwall. Due to a sustained increase in riding school activity post covid restrictions and the need to reduce some hours of our senior team, OMS is seeking to expand its teaching staff resource and yard management team.
About Old Mill Stables LLP
Old Mill Stables LLP (OMS) is a BHS and Cornwall Council approved riding school, which was originally established in 1962. Our clientele largely consists of the regular/weekly recreational rider, as such much of our work is related to the preparation and delivery of weekly group/private lessons for all ages of amateur rider. OMS also caters for a small number of homegrown livery clients , however the riding school is the primary activity . OMS also runs equine apprenticeships in conjunction with Haddon training. Our management team includes a qualified trainer/coach working on behalf of Haddon, meaning apprenticeships can be wholly delivered onsite at OMS. OMS also promotes its team to progress with BHS stage exams and has regular training sessions with a visiting Fellow instructor of the BHS. OMS is also the home of the South West Cornwall Riding for the disabled group.
Facilities
OMS typically has between 35 and 40 horses/ponies onsite, ranging from Shetland ponies, to 17hh sports horses in order to cater for a diverse range of clientele. OMS has an indoor/covered schooling arena and an outdoor schooling arena with a set of new show jumps with FEI compliant safety cups. OMS has some superb hacking with woodland, bridleways and national trust moorland in close proximity accessed by quite lanes.
Job Role
Riding School Instructor
Old Mill Stables are looking to recruit a Qualified Horse Riding Instructor Previous experience and suitable training is required. Teaching qualifications such as BHS or ABRS are expected in the successful candidate. The position may suit an experienced riding instructor who has taken a career break or someone newly qualified seeking to expand and develop their experience. An induction period to get to know our horses and regular riders will be undertaken with one of our existing instructors. Initially the majority of sessions will be with novice riders establishing walk trot and canter seats. Instructors will need the ability to safely and effectively manage a group or private session from on lead rein upwards, whilst making the session fun and interesting for the clients. The instructor will need the ability to effectively assess rider and horse combinations to enable suitable horse/rider selection and appropriate sessions times. Must be able to effectively communicate with the yard staff and other instructors when developing ride lists etc. A client facing position that requires and professional and friendly attitude to the students and their parents/care givers. Additionally we are happy to provide training as part of the job towards further BHS qualification . An in date First Aid at Work certificate and safegaurding certificate would be advantageous.
Working hours
Initially part time (including saturdays) -hours to be agreed with candidate after interview, shift work on a rota based system
Salary/hourly rate
To be agreed - dependant on experience/ agreed hours etc
